Originally I set out to design a pair of mittens. I got distracted after the first mitten and knit a matching hat (I love hats). Lucky for boyfriend, eventually I finished the second mitten and completed Dave's Montera Set. Head over to this week's Web-Letter from Classic Elite for the free pattern.
The stitch pattern is a little magical. It is lovely in a solid color as the texture creates an almost-woven look. However, in two colors the pattern adds texture to the stripes--which is just as cool.
I whipped up the hat in a day while watching football (oh, those jubilant days when the Pats were playing so well...). The mittens would have gone just as quickly, if it weren't for my aversion to DPNs.
Boyfriend has been wearing the set non-stop through the recent, relentless New England blizzards and, I am thrilled to report, he approves of the thick and insulating yarn (and he's picky!). Boyfriend is from the south and pleasing his discriminating taste in winter accessories is no small feat.
Happy winter, everyone. I hope it's over soon so we can start the vegetable garden :).
